Editorial Review for Minute Maid Park – by Citysearch Editors
The Venue
The spectacular stadium, which opened in March 2000 as the Astros' new home, is built on the site of Union Station, a decaying rail depot, incorporating part of that structure as a cornerstone. There's even a decorative locomotive that chugs across a track above the left-field wall to celebrate game highlights. Criticized by baseball purists for its bandbox dimensions inviting easy home runs (315 feet down the left-field line), the field seems to please the average spectator.
The Experience
After decades of watching the game on artificial turf under glass at the cavernous Astrodome, fans appreciate the intimate, open-air (when the roof is retracted), real-grass setting. Playing a major role in the revitalization of a once-moribund downtown, Astros Field is developing into a civic as well as an athletic success story for Houston.

The Park never fails to show us a good time whether we win or lose....great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. For those who compain about prices, please try going to any other major league sporting venue...you'll notice every place is a little over the top these days. Minute Maid Park is clean, close to the action, modern, and the parking could be a heck of a lot worse!!!! Quit complaining and treat yourself to a game.

Minute Maid Park is sweet! Wherever you sit you really have a good view of the field and don't feel like you are miles away from the game like at the Dome. They have plenty of concession stands and gift shops. They usually have activities before and after the game that are interesting or involve the spectator. Also have "freebies" that are pretty cool for the first 10,000 to 15,000 fans etc. Ticket prices are very reasonable. The consessions offer pretty good food with a wide variety.Expensive though. If you sit too deep in right field you can't see the Nice BIG Scoreboard. I recommend sitting as close to the rail as you can wherever you sit. The Crawford Boxes are a plus! Have a great view as well as a great chance of catching a Home Run ball!
Pros: Parking, Atmosphere, The Roof!!!
Cons: No cup holders in most sections, Food&Beer Ex$pen$ive, Concourse a bit small
